Builders of legends

Selecting just two shipyards of this kind, each one in its own sector of the superyacht industry, is not an easy task. Our choice finally came to rest on these two major names.

FEADSHIP

No connoisseur will deny the fact that this historic shipyard belongs to the Valhalla of the Netherlands’ yacht builders. Founded in 1949, Feadship was initially comprised of several shipyards together with the De Voogt Naval Architects studio. Today, the Royal Van Lent Shipyard and Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw are the two shipbuilders producing the Feadship.

The historic De Voogt studio has designed many elegant yachts including the famous and inimitable Feadship Classic. Forty years after the launch of ‘‘Catch’’ (26.60m), the company’s naval architecture still bears the De Voogt signature, and the lines of yachts on the drawing board (EXPV-87m) or the Project 823 (67.40m) demonstrate Feadship’s capacity to adapt to new trends while preserving all its original attributes.

Since its creation, Feadship has pursued a single obsession: a quest for perfection from a yacht’s design to its finishing touches. In Boat International’s last World Superyacht Awards in Istanbul on May 20th, 2023, Feadship was awarded three awards: for the 42m ‘‘Callisto’’ in the semi-displacement category, a Gold Neptune denoting a Judges’ Special Award for ‘‘Shinkai’’, and a Judges’ Special Award also won by ‘‘Juice’’. ‘‘We don’t build yachts quickly, we build them perfectly.’’

ROSSINAVI

Since the 1970’s, Italy’s Rossi Shipyard, now become ROSSINAVI, has never lost sight of its family vocation. It has an innate passion based on the desire for each yacht it builds to be irreproachable for both excellent craftsmanship in its construction and finishes, and its seafaring qualities.

Over the decades, ROSSINAVI has built a real fleet of yachts of different kinds and in different styles, displacement and semi-displacement models, and yachts of a more sporting character. In collaboration with top designer Pininfarina, ROSSINAVI proposes Supersport 50-60 and Aurea 70 yachts for dedicated fans of speed while projecting itself into the future, as illustrated by its projects.

Eco-responsible yachting lies at the core of its concerns, and the future is well and truly on the cards. The ONEIRIC project demonstrates this shipyard’s capacity to focus on the future without disowning any of its shipbuilding culture. All ROSSINAVI achievements are Custom yachts corresponding in every respect to the shipbuilder’s requirements and desires down to the very last detail. In four decades, this family-run shipyard has joined the elite of builders and become a real benchmark.

HOLLAND, THE PROMISSED LAND

According to legend, the Flying Dutchman is condemned to sail the seas until the very end of time. For centuries, the Dutch always seem to have been driven by this obsession with building boats of very high quality. The heritage of their pragmatic ancestors, building boats more dedicated to trading and transport than to wars of conquest, yacht construction in the Netherlands of today bears no comparison with that of other major players in this sector.
