Monaco Yacht Show: the capital of sustainable yachting

Since 2005, the Monaco Yacht Show has been committed to an eco-friendly approach and has been raising awareness of environmental issues among the yachting community.

From September 25 to 28, the 2024 edition of the Monaco Yacht Show, the world’s leading yachting event, takes place with more than 120 yachts, nearly 600 exhibitors, and several thousand local and foreign visitors. For many years, the MYS organization has been committed to respecting the pact set forth by the Government of Monaco, both during preparations throughout the year and during the Show, the aim of which is to reduce Monaco’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This pact consists of a Charter of Commitment that unites all local players around three main energy transition topics: mobility, waste, and energy. Annual action plans indicate each member’s objectives for the energy transition, highlighting the amounts of greenhouse gas emissions they will avoid.

The Monaco Yacht Show has been at the forefront of raising environmental awareness since joining the Carbon Neutral program in 2005. Our pioneering approach to sustainability led to the establishment of the Sustainability Hub past years. As one of the industry’s major voices, we fully embrace our social responsibility. This dedicated area for eco-friendly yachting alternatives is part of our extended sustainability program, which encompasses the entire show’s logistics and layout here in the port of Monaco. We aim to support exhibitors, service providers, and visitors alike in finding viable solutions to environmental challenges,” says Gaëlle Tallarida, Managing Director of the Monaco Yacht Show.

Since 2010, the MYS has supported the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation (FPA2) and its program of international environmental actions. Each year, the Monaco Yacht Show and the Informa Group (which owns the boat show) make donations to the Sovereign Prince’s Foundation. Last year, the MYS contributed to the preservation of ice core heritage through the “Ice Memory” program. Its objective is to study climate change and its effects by preserving data from the world’s glaciers (4-year project ending in 2025, led by the Grenoble Alpes University Foundation, France). In 2022, the Sustainability Hub was created to showcase sustainable solutions and eco-friendly projects in order to minimize superyachts’ environmental footprint. Also, the yachting event helps promote the annual London2Monaco cycling race organized by the Blue Marine Foundation. The race – welcomed to Monaco by the Sovereign Prince himself – is a promotional fundraising campaign aimed at financing the foundation’s environmental projects. All of its initiatives and projects are helping promote viable pro-environmental solutions and truly innovative projects in the yachting industry.
